As we close out a memorable and productive 2014 I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very Happy New Year. In many ways 2014 seems to have passed too quickly but I believe as a community we can rightly pause with pride over a very good year.
We have escaped the cloud of debt and deficits which seem so prevalent and can approach 2015 with our financial house in order. Given today’s economic challenges that is no small feat. I also look back with gratitude on a very safe 2014 and thank our police officers and fire fighters. Our standing in this area is a matter of public record, born out by solid data. We live in a safe and respectful community.
We also live in a community enjoying prosperity and partnerships. Strong housing started and continues both on the river and hill and we have come together in celebration throughout the year. From our Safe Summer Festival in the park to a first ever Winter Festival on Remsen Street we clearly enjoy our gatherings. Changes to our Farmers Market and Concert Series were very well received, showing record attendance. The view from my office of Silliman Park has never been better in complete holiday splendor thanks to the generosity of Kelman’s Recycling. We really do have much to be grateful for.
My hope is we can all take time to appreciate what we’ve had but also move forward with an attitude that as good as 2014 was, next year will be our best year.
From the Mayor’s Office and all of City Hall, I wish you and your families a Happy New Year!
